* Do not expect perfection. Children may feel anxious when trying to do an activity perfect in order to please their parents, putting a huge burden on their shoulders. It is important that you and others who spend time with your child do not expect them to do activities perfect the first time. You should also let your child know that no matter how well they do, you are proud of them.
* Schedule more family time. We all get busy in life, whether we are caring for a child with special needs, are busy with work, or have to many errands to run. No matter how busy you get, schedule time with your entire family to do an activity that brings joy and relaxation at the same time. Board games, movies, going for walks, or playing at the park are all excellent options to help ease your child’s anxiety and strengthen the bond between all family members.
* Reward your child for bravery. If your little one is still struggling with doing activities or going places that brings yourchild anxiety, try a reward system. Every time your child faces their fears, reward them with a sticker, small treat, or even praise to let them know you are proud of them. By using a reward system, your child will be more willing to face their fears instead of hiding from them.
* Get on a sleep schedule. A lack of sleep could also result in heightened anxiety symptoms. Start a bedtime routine that involves between 30 and 45 minutes of getting ready for bed, brushing teeth, and unwinding. This will help their body transition from the activities they did during the day to a sleepy state. This schedule needs to be consistent every day, including weekends, in order to be successful.
